Ski tours – the hiking of winter

Our guests will not find any lifts on the Ronachkopf, so it is a mountain for ski tourers only! Nevertheless, there is a prepared ski route (2.5 kilometres), which makes the night descents a safe experience. The start is at the “Ronachkopf car park” in the Thumersbach valley. You can also find the pin of the same name in Google Maps. Afterwards, the route goes 600 metres uphill along the signposted ski route. Just before the summit is the Enzianhütte. Local delicacies are served there daily.

A pleasant ski tour if you don’t want to go too long. From Langwiedboden you start along the piste to the Alpincenter. You start at a good 2000m. The Alpincenter is at 2450m – so you cover a good 450 metres in altitude. The Schneekoenigin is primarily a ski tour for the beginning of the season to get back into the swing of things and improve your fitness. Alternatively, you can continue off-piste after the Alpincenter.

At first, the trail leads through a deep winter forest and then you can enjoy a wonderful panorama. You start from the summit of the Schmitten. First you ski down the Kapellenpiste. Either take the Hahnkopf lift up a few metres or start right next to the T-Bar lift. The route always runs along the ridge to the Maurerkogel. In terms of the descent, you have 2 options here – either you descend as you ascended or you branch off halfway directing south-east to the Pinzgauer Hütte. Tip: if you consume something in the hut, there is a free skidoo shuttle back to the piste which is really fun.

The longest continuous ski tour in the Alps with a continuous ascent of 2500 metres in altitude. A feat of strength that definitely requires a lot of experience and stamina. We start in Fusch at just under 900 metres and then climb to the summit of the Hoher Tenn at 3368 metres. Shortly before the ski depot, an indescribable view of the neighbouring “Grosse Wiesbachhorn” opens up. The last few metres are done without skis – crampons should definitely be taken along on this tour.

Last but not least, our last Alpine ski tour leads to the Kitzsteinhorn in Zell am See – Kaprun. Because of the ski area, there are several options from where you can climb to the summit of the Kitzsteinhorn. From the Gipfelwelt 3000 it is not even 200 metres in altitude to the summit, but we start the same way as for the ski tour Eisbrecher & Schneekönigin – from Langwiedboden. Up to the summit slope at just under 3000 metres, the tour is along the slopes or along the signposted routes. The summit slope and thus the last 200 metres in altitude are very demanding and hardly manageable on skis. Crampons & a mountain guide are definitely recommended. At 3203 metres, the efforts will definitely be worth it – a fantastic view of the Kaprun reservoirs and the surrounding mountains, all the way to the Großglockner.
